We’d like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, or whatever it is you celebrate. At Project Buy Local, we’re very fortunate to be blessed with so much in such a turbulent year. We always support and donate to our local businesses, organizations, and causes throughout the Midwest and we never make a penny. As a matter-of-fact, we lose money every month and we like it that way. Our mission is to help support our local communities, and that’s it.

I’ve personally received numerous emails from many of you out there, expressing the joy you’ve felt in helping someone local who needs it. I can’t begin to express how much that means. The buy local movement isn’t always received as well as it should be by society or social media. Sometimes it’s a tough sell. But, knowing there are great people like you out there ensures we move forward with our cause and validates our mission to help those in need.

This holiday season, we’d like to ask you to do something that might be a bit unorthodox. If you are able, we’d like you to consider donating and supporting those who might fall outside the realm of local businesses and organizations. Don’t get me wrong, please, please, please continue to support your local businesses, organizations and causes, but if you are able, make a donation to someone who needs it.

For example, if you encounter someone asking for money for food, please give something. Know someone who could use a little extra money for food, heat, or medicine? Give them a few bucks. Come across someone who is clearly down on their luck? Help them out without questions, judgement, or any strings attached.

Together, we will continue to do great things and I am very humbled and blessed to be connected to such a great network of local supporters.
